2026-27 World Maritime Day theme to take policy to practice
In 2010, the International Maritime Organization (IMO), decided to designate June 25th as the International Day of the Seafarer as a way to recognize that almost everything that we use in our daily lives has been directly or indirectly affected by sea transport.
The purpose of the day is to give thanks to seafarers for their contribution to the world economy and the civil society; and for the risks and personal costs they bear while on their jobs.
My Harassment-Free Ship
On this year’s Day of the Seafarer, the International Ship Engineering Service (ISES) Association joins the global maritime community to raise awareness and take a stand for the rights and dignity of every seafarer.
We reaffirm our commitment to promoting a harassment-free maritime environment where all seafarers feel safe, appreciated, loved, and respected.
At sea, no one should face abuse, discrimination, or intimidation. Every vessel should be a space where professionalism, inclusion, and human rights are upheld.
Building a Future of Respect at Sea
The Day of the Seafarer 2025 is more than a celebration—it’s a call for action. ‘My Harassment-Free Ship’ is about changing the maritime culture to one where every seafarer feels safe, valued, and protected at sea. Explore the Interactive World Map, access campaign materials, and join us in making every ship a harassment-free workplace. Together, we can create a safer maritime industry.

This campaign seeks to:

Introducing the Interactive World Map
A key feature of this year’s campaign is the launch of an Interactive World Map, highlighting resources available by flag state to support seafarers in reporting and addressing harassment at sea. This tool provides vital information on policies, support systems, and reporting mechanisms, empowering seafarers to seek help wherever they are in the world.
